This handsome, distinguished gentle-poof is Charles. With his giant ears and cute as a button nose, you can't help but fall in love. He's social and loves his pets but he's also an independent guy. Things that Charles appreciates in life are his independence, the quiet and tranquil home, snacks and pets. His curiosity in life allow him to explore every time he gets his out of kennel time through out the day. Things that Charles does not appreciate in his life are dogs, he'd prefer a home without them. Charles' adoption fee is $150. Chinchillas- we're cute & fuzzy, and have GIANT ears! But you knew that just from the photo. Here are some fun facts about us chinchillas that you may not know! Our teeth grow throughout our lives so we need to have wood or wooden toys to chew on at all times to keep our teeth filed down. We can overheat easily- the best temperature for us is between 59 and 77 degrees fahrenheit. We need to take a dust bath in our special chinchilla dust once a week. We are nocturnal- that means we sleep all day and are active at night! We have the softest fur of all land animals (I guess that probably hasn't been proven- but it's true!). Chinchillas like me eat hay and chinchilla pellets, and we can live for 20 years! Housing requirements: Most housing sold at pet stores is too small for small pets. They are going to be spending most of their lives inside their cage; your housing must be as large as the below or larger (bigger is always better!) in order to adopt this pet. A cage that's at least 3 feet wide, 2 feet deep, and 4 feet tall (with multiple levels). Double level Ferret Nation cages are perfect. A good cage will cost $200-300.Cages with 'multiple stories,' often referred to as 'condo cages' allow your chinchilla to move in many directions and are recommended. Ramps lead from one 'floor' to the other. If your cage does not have multiple levels, a shelf high up in the cage, with a ramp leading to it, should be provided. Chinchillas are a social species, meaning the company of their own kind is critical to their health and well being. If there are two names listed together (eg Peanut Butter w/Jelly), that means that the two animals are a bonded pair of friends, and must be adopted together. If there are more than two animals listed together (eg Peanut Butter w/Jelly and Toast), the group is to be adopted together. If there are 4 or more listed together, they can be adopted in pairs or trios - we just can't leave a single alone. Got a single at home you're looking for a friend for? Any animal listed alone on our website is a single and a great candidate; if there is a group of 3 or more, usually one can be taken out of that group as a companion for your single. Friends must be same sex, unless your current single is already neutered.
